Question by Bree: GI Bill????
Hi all,

We are wondering about the GI bill. My husband got out of the navy about a yr ago after serving 4 years . Since then he has been working at a retail store trying to support our family. I work to and just got a promotion so we are trying to see if he can go to school using his GI bill now.

Can anyone tell us if they pay you per month, if so how much? In addition do they pay for schooling as well and pay you to? Is the money you get like financial aid? are you only suppose to use it for books? Does the GI bill pay for books? Can u get financial aid and the gi bill together? Are there any websites or agencies that can give us more information? Please help!

Thanks for any answers!

Check out this site for all the info you need…http://www.gibill.va.gov/

Also when he finds out what school he wants to attend he can talk to the financial aid people and they will be able to answer all his questions and get him in touch with scholarship/grants.

Fact is that the GI Bill is a monster. If you truly want the correct answers to all your questions then you really should call your local VA office.

what kind of discharge did he have? honorable? if so he should be able to use it. he needs to call the education center for any information. not sure about the navy, but for the air force the check gets sent directly to you and is a set amount each month. it is up to you how you spend it (tuition/ books/ etc). the payment per month is $ 1,101.

there is a new bill in congress that will increase funds, add a housing stipend, and ability to transfer to spouse/children. i hope it gets approved. here’s the site.
